Rare Scrilla: DJPEPE Turns Ten

Rare Scrilla's DJPEPE card turns ten on October 13, with 39 subassets that make it a mini gallery within the card itself.

Rare Scrilla, whose X profile now reads "DJPEPE fka Rare Scrilla," is counting down to a birthday. DJPEPE, his Rare Pepe card on Counterparty, first appeared on October 13, 2016, so this month marks its tenth birthday. "Over the past ten years I've made zero promises with the DJPEPE rare pepe card," he wrote on October 5, describing it as a memetically royal rare pepe that spins underground hip hop and punk rock in the memepool.

The same thread tallies the decade. He has issued 39 subassets from the card, "basically making it a mini gallery within the card itself," while other artists have airdropped work to holders and he has sent about a dozen pieces himself. There have been parties, a hand-drawn cardboard DJPEPE now on its seventh version, and DJ Qbert sets at pepe events around the world. The character, he explained, is "based on a marriage of DJ Q Bert's likeness and DJ J Scrilla's drunk dj sets and rants."

The rest of his feed keeps the same pace. On September 29 he posted a new acrylic on canvas, McAfee Making Monero McPepe, and a day later resurfaced Grand Rising, a 2023 generative mixtape collection of 420 unique songs and covers co-produced with RoomInEight, which can still be blended on the interactive turntables on his website.
