Osinachi: Signatures, 1111 Abstractions Drawn in Microsoft Word
Osinachi steps from portraiture into abstraction with Signatures, a SuperRare blind mint of 1111 works drawn in Microsoft Word, shaped by Igbo Uli and built around tension.
Osinachi opened Signatures by Osinachi on SuperRare on October 14 at 12 PM ET, a blind mint of 1111 abstract works hand drawn in Microsoft Word and animated in GIMP. Each mint costs 35 USD, with cards accepted and up to 10 mints per wallet. Later that day he added a 0.015 ETH option after realising that collectors holding only ETH could not get in.
The collection is a turn in his practice. Known as the artist who tells stories through portraiture, he calls Signatures the result of a months long journey into abstract art, a challenge to break out of the box of the familiar. The forms carry the influence of Uli, the visual language of his ethnic group, the Igbo people of eastern Nigeria.
Tension is the subject. As each form took its place on the screen, he says, tension emerged as a concept, and he split the collection into 5 categories to interrogate it: 500 Fem, 500 Masc, 100 Neutral, 10 Newborn and a single Seed. Each category has features that dictate how its works interact with the space around them. Sometimes the lines shift, distort and break, and sometimes the forms race for negative space while still drawn to their original position.
Collectors are already minting, among them Bryan Brinkman, whom Osinachi thanked as a fellow OG. Ahead of the launch he also invited galleries and informal spaces for digital art to host all 1111 pieces, writing that the world deserves to see the collection.
