OKAYAMAN: SILKROAD Comes to His First Solo Show
OKAYAMAN's first solo exhibition opens November 14 at ONE DAY COFFEE in Hachioji, and his SILKROAD series is coming with it.
OKAYAMAN has announced his first solo exhibition. It runs November 14 to 29 at ONE DAY COFFEE in Hachioji, on the western edge of Tokyo, a cafe opened by a close friend from the years he spent there after moving to the city as a university student. He now lives in Okayama but calls Hachioji something like a second hometown, and said that holding his first solo show at a dear friend's place makes him very happy.
SILKROAD will be on the walls. "Of course I'll be showing the SILK ROAD series," he wrote on October 5, adding that he wants to tie Ordinals into the show properly. The series pairs Pattern and Decoration with Minimalism, two philosophies he says cannot exist without each other, and began as watercolor patterns on A4 paper. Its parent, PDM-001, was inscribed at 4.1MB by splitting the file into 11 bin files. He is now hand-drawing 11 works to reinscribe onto those same sats so that each file can exist "as a holy grail," and on September 30 he said the ninth one he was drawing was coming out especially well. Once all 11 are inscribed, 001 will be burned.
The same mix of paper and chain runs through his latest listing. The time of the strata, an inscription on block 9 rare sats from his WONDER HOME GROUND 2023-2026 gallery, is up for auction on Ord-Dropz with a physical version included, an A4 drawing in Copic black ink. "The strata do not speak for themselves, but only spit out meaning when asked," the description reads.
