Justin Aversano: 366 Paintings Ahead of a November Opening
Justin Aversano has silkscreened 366 paintings and is hanging his hand-painted photographs on canvas ahead of a November opening.
Justin Aversano is deep in a painting project. "Now that we finished silkscreening 366 paintings, it's time to stretch 366 paintings," he wrote on September 12. Ten days later he posted a studio lined with color: "Surrounded by paintings! Going to need seven floors at this point." By September 27 the canvases were going up: "Hand painted photographs on canvas going up on the walls!" He is sending out VIP invites to an opening in November.
The work has filled his summer. He shared "Painting in progress" on August 5, then took what he called "a much needed painting break" to shoot 16mm footage of ascending waterfalls in Iceland, and was "Back in the studio" by August 16. A day later he posted "Painting twins," working on bright green and yellow figures against a blue ground.
He is also planning how to show the space, thinking about "360' videos and Gaussian splats for an immersive view into the studio" and waiting on an LED panel delivery to test experimental video installations. The paintings follow Moments of the Unknown, the 366-day project in which he filmed ten-second Super-8 portraits of people across seven continents, which he describes as "a cinematic portrait of humanity."
