Archan Nair: The Monuments Are Rising in Mūori

Archan Nair's living mythology Echoes Within Mūori is moving into its second chapter, Dōrvath :: The Monuments, after a first chapter told as a walk, a door and a hunt.

Berlin-based Archan Nair has been making work since 2006, a practice that began, in his words, "as a leap of faith away from fashion." For nearly 2 years he has been building something larger: Echoes Within Mūori, which he describes as "a living mythology .. an ongoing series of artworks featuring mythological beings, cosmic landscapes and figures that exist at the intersection of nature, technology and human consciousness." Mūori is an invented word for "the infinite field where all forms are dreamed into existence." Ideas, references and symbols came first, the making began in January 2025, and the works, over 100 to date, are "not designed but channeled."

The world entered Ethereum with Point Zero, "a single being rendered in 100 unique color variations," which Nair calls "the seed before the forest." The first chapter, Āvorn :: The Ascendants, arrived on September 1 and 2 with 12 beings: 7 were minted at first, and others surfaced later through quests. In The Third Door, holders of 1 of 6 works could complete a quest, give their piece back to the field and choose Emberwake, Elder or Vigil in its place. In The Waiting Ember, "something small and shy" was hidden inside 1 of the artworks, and whoever found it first received a 1 of 1. It was found on September 29, the day the hunt opened. Āvorn is also a written chapter, told to you as a wanderer: "You wake in a field that has no edges."

Each chapter is called a transmission, and on October 21 Nair announced the second: Dōrvath :: The Monuments. "the art is only the surface of Mūori," he wrote the next day. "beneath it .. a story. a language. a world with its own laws." On October 24 he posted a towering many-armed figure beneath a vast glowing canopy, 2 tiny travelers standing at its feet, with 4 words: "The monuments are rising." No date has been given yet, only "soon."

Mūori also runs off the canvas. Name in Mūori turns a visitor's name into glyphs, each drawn by Nair by hand. Gathering of Whispers asks a daily question and gives every visitor a sigil to offer "to a growing being shaped by everyone who visits." The Breathing One only opens if you press, hold and breathe with it long enough. As the FAQ puts it, the series "is not a finished collection. It keeps unfolding, one transmission at a time."
